Frequently Asked Questions

How should road bike shoes fit compared to running shoes?

Road shoes should fit snugly with no heel slip and 3mm to 5mm of room in front of your longest toe. Extra length pushes your cleat too far back relative to the ball of your foot.

Why do feet go numb on rides over 20 miles?

Feet expand as blood flows during exercise. If your shoe sole is too narrow across the ball, your outer metatarsals get squeezed together, pinching nerves and causing numbness.

Should beginners start with 3-bolt or 2-bolt pedals?

If you want to walk easily at coffee stops or commute, 2-bolt SPD pedals use recessed cleats you can walk in normally. If you only care about road riding performance, 3-bolt road pedals provide a wider, stiffer platform.
